Easy Slow-Cooked Brisket (Tender & Flavorful)
A simple, from-scratch brisket recipe cooked low and slow with a rich vegetable base and a hint of BBQ flavor. Perfect for family dinners and cozy gatherings.
Ingredients
1 whole brisket
Salt & pepper
BBQ rub
BBQ sauce
1 onion, chopped
3–4 garlic cloves, minced
2–3 carrots, chopped
2–3 celery stalks, chopped
1 can crushed tomatoes
1–2 cups beef broth
Instructions
1. Sear the brisket
Season the brisket with salt, pepper, and BBQ rub. In a large pan, sear on all sides until browned. This builds deep flavor.
2. Build the base
In a large baking dish or Dutch oven, add the chopped onion, garlic, carrots, and celery. This will cook down into a rich sauce.
3. Assemble
Place the seared brisket directly on top of the vegetables.
4. Add liquids
Pour the crushed tomatoes and beef broth around the brisket, keeping the top seasoned.
5. Add BBQ flavor
Spread BBQ sauce over the top of the brisket.
6. Cook low and slow
Cover and cook at 300°F for 6 hours, until the brisket is very tender and easy to slice.
7. Rest and serve
Let the brisket rest before slicing. Spoon the cooked-down vegetables and sauce over the top.
Notes
The vegetables are not a side—they break down and become part of the sauce.
Cooking low and slow creates the most tender texture.
Even better the next day as flavors deepen.
Serving Ideas
Serve with rice, mashed potatoes, or warm bread to soak up the sauce.
